DRONFIELD COMMUNITY BUILDING

Bahá’í communities have been established in the UK since 1914. Currently there are three Bahá’í communities that are within easy travelling distance of Dronfield.
They are in Chesterfield, Sheffield and Doncaster. Bahá’ís are very keen to work in harmony with the local community of which they are an essential part and hold a series of events throughout the year in which anyone is free to take part in. To attend these events please contact our secretary and let us know if you would like to come. Tel: 01246 410137

Baha'is come from an amazing variety of backgrounds and are not confined to a particular age group or ethnic origin. They therefore represent the rich tapestry of life which goes well beyond thoughts of nationality, race, culture or creed. The UK Baha'i Community because of this is therefore a fine example of the principle of 'Unity in Diversity'.

DRONFIELD SKYLINE

Dronfield Skyline this month with a slight touch of humour is taking a look at Coal Aston and asking questions about our sense of locality and what this really means in an age of globalisation. Your contributions are welcome.

............................................................................................................................

Focus on Coal Aston

There are about 23,000 people living in Dronfield.
The town is spread over a range of low lying hills in the north eastern corner of Derbyshire.
Although officially in Derbyshire it is really midway between Chesterfield and Sheffield. Only six miles in each direction.

Around 3,300 of the Dronfield population live in Coal Aston. Out of these 3,300 people the vast majority are over 25 years of age. A sizeable number of those are of retirement age.

Does this mean that Coal Aston is a sleepy sort of place or does it contain some 'Hidden Treasures'? Not exactly but there are numerous courses on offer designed to get people involved in improving their general abilities and skills regardless of age. There is also a thriving village hall which hosts numerous events some of them quite surprising. A Baha'i from a neighbouring community just celebrated his 60th birthday there in April along with about a hundred invited guests.

This guest could have been accused of being drunk and disorderly but just seems to be lost and confused. Where did his partner get now now in this fast moving Barn Dance?

LOOKING BACK

Focus on Abdul Baha'

This PAGE HAS REPLACED THE PREVIOUS VIEWPOINT PAGE and has a historical focus. This month's contribution is a Baha'i article about the life of Abdul Baha' a key figure in Baha'i history and can be read by clicking the following link: - http://www.uga.edu/~bahai/abdulbaha.shtml

LOOKING FORWARD

THIS PAGE REPLACES 'Dialogue' and provides us with an opportunity to reflect on various themes which make us want to develop our knowledge about ourselves and the world we would like to create. We welcome constructive dialogue and comment on these themes.

This month's theme is 'Developing the Human Spirit'

There are many ways of developing the human spirit and the avenues we choose in order to do this will reflect what we hold most dear to ourselves. What follows is an account of just one way of doing this but what is different about it is that it is an initiative which began initially in Columbia a country torn by so many troubles but now a country which has given birth to a world wide phenomenon know as the Ruhi Institute.

This 7 step training programme has now engendered a global response and been adopted by hundreds of Baha'i Communities in many different regions some very rural and others highly urbanised. What is even more remarkable is that it is also attracting increasing numbers of people who are not declared Baha'is but who recognise the importance and significance of the Baha'i teachings.

The following explanation as to what the process that has been set in motion actually represents has been defined for us here by the Belize Baha'i Institute.

Founding Principles:

We are all created noble

We can be empowered step by step

We can be spiritually and morally transformed"

...religion seeks to improve and transform." - Baha'i Writings

Goals: Development of the skills, knowledge, insights, and attitudes needed for this millennium, including the following:

Assistance to individuals in becoming more noble human beings

Preparation of individuals for a life of service to God's teachings

Training of individuals who will help guide humanity to solutions for today's problems and bring about a more peaceful, unified, and spiritual society

Preparation of joyful attitudes of service including the ability to lead others to spiritual and moral solutions to today's challenges.

Courses and Workshops:

Are based on the Word of God

Address your basic needs, spiritual thirst, and questions about life and death

Help you learn skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will help you in your daily life and work

Help you transform your own self and become a better, more capable, and more noble human being than you are today

The Baha'i community of Belize is currently concentrating on fostering study circles and on training youth, pre-youth, children's class teachers, and tutors.

The following are some of the courses available in English and Spanish:

RUHI- Book 1: "Reflections on the Life of the Spirit"
RUHI- Book 2: "Arising to Serve"
RUHI- Book 3: "Children's Class Teacher"
RUHI- Book 4: "Twin Manifestations"
RUHI- Book 6: "Teaching the Cause"
RUHI- Book 7 "Walking Together on a Path of Service"

Also available in English this year is a "Workshop on Devotional Meetings"
